I was kind of sort of almost but not quite offered a job, in ireland. I know a hguy who could fix me up with a job at a call center - no education rewuirted as long as I speak passable English, or so he says. Pays approximately twice whar I get in a month now - I am sure you can imagine why i am so tempted to actually give that a try.

Pros would be not having to dal with people face to face, probably reasonably flexible hours, and the whole being paid enough to make me happy thing. and, IRELAND! cons oeulf be.. phones, and the fact that it is helldesk. and actually, you know, ahving to work.

BVut then again, OI have 6 months to figure this out. or so anyweay. but think this is something to fed to the wolves the day after tomorrow.

Any opinions, guys?

The question you have to ask yourself...

In years to come will you regret not going to Ireland?

Kuulostaa mahtavalta. Veikkaan että sinua luultavasti harmittaa jos et lähde ja väliaikainen maisemanvaihdos voisi tehdä hyvää sun päällekin.

I know you're planning to come to Ireland anyway...but I would hesitate on the call center job. The laws here in Ireland regarding call centers favor the employer, not the employee, and most people who take these jobs are only able to stand the pressure for a few weeks before they quit...think long hours and low wages as well as very high quotas. My understanding is that they purposely hire non-Irish people because it's easier to bully them..."If you don't do your job we'll make you go back to where you came from."

There are always exceptions to the rule...but please be careful. I would hate to see you taken advantage of.

Well, this job was recommended to me by a Finnish acwuiantance - the pay is apaprently very good, at leastby my standards it is, and the job is apparently also not too difficult in the acutally having to do something sense.

bvut donöt worry, i willd efinitley look into it as much as possible before making any decisions at all.

Ireland is more expensive to live in than some of the more posh spots in the US...

Even here in the US, call center jobs are a drag. I worked in one for two years (one of the nation's biggest auto and property insurance companies) and it drained me.
Then, when I was costing too much in medical treatment for them, they trumped up a charge to fire me with. Granted, they wound up paying unemployment to me, and got seriously fined by the state, but that didn't help me.

In the end, I am glad I don't work there any more, and will avoid call center jobs like the plague now.

I figure it is as good a chance to get permanently out of my hellish hometown as any - and apparently according to the guy who is hooking me up, the job is as stressful as you let it be. thereofr.e.. i am ewilling to give it a try.

Up to you, but hey, it sounds potentially useful. And once you've got a foot in the door you could always look for other work in Ireland (or the UK!) anyway.

And getting out of your past and into a new place with new people to meet sounds like it would be very good for you, too. :)

This might be a good thing if you go about it in the right way. You need a backup plan in case you for some reason need to come back to Finland - you don't want to end up back in the hellhole. Also, find out what you can do if you become seriously ill, say, with chronical depression. And finally, using cheap foreign labor from Eastern European countries is a growing trend in Ireland. So prepare to be treated like crap.

Still though, it might be a very good chance to get out.

Yay!

Who's offered it to you, and do you know where it is?
This would make it much easier to visit you (depending on the county!)
