SDooo, on a message baord I frequent,t here is a thread about spanking as a punishment ofr kids, I am not getting involved there, becuase I hate arguments, andd as such I intend to kust stfuy on the subject but it has made me think. a lot.

As it is, when I will have kids, I ammost definitwely going to be the sort of a mother who uses the classic line "You just wait till your father gets home" -. namely, because I do not trust myself fdor meting out suitable repercussions for a child's actuions.

case in point; when I was a kid, mom often used a switch on me. I remember thinking two things - one, that I would never hit my kids like that, never pull their hair or smakt hem or anything. and the second? Just wait till i ahve kids, and I can dot hre same to them... which illustrates the point quite well. After years and years of abuse from mom, the systerm, and a lot of other folks, I simply do not trust myself with discipline.

So yeah. I will definitely let the future Mr. Ara take care of that.

(of course this will mostly only apply when the kidlelets are older but still...)

and on other news, I dragged out 3 bags of terash and the cats peed ont he floor *sigh*

But you know, little kids are in many ways like our dear cats so it's not very wise to say "You just wait till your father gets home". By the time dad comes home the association between the cause and the punishment has become dim and the kid feels like he's/she's been punished for nothing. Just like it's useless to yell at cat if you find the mess long after it's done :)

Yweah,.t hat isa why the qualifier when the kids get older..... I am goijg to greatly suck at the whole being a mother thing. I know my cats are totally obnoxious luittle shits....

If (and god help the poor little bastards if I ever do) have kids, I don't think there's anything wrong with a swat on the backside. Not a spanking, but a swat. It depends on the kid. Guilt worked on me without anything else at all. Nothing works on my sister. So go figure. *shrug*

Yeah, all kids are different. and imo there is a huge difference between a swat on the backside/hand and a spanking - I don't really see much of a problem with swats but spanking? Um, too much institutionalization there to my liking...

I'm a former abused child...and a gentle discipliner. It takes a lot of effort to stay on track and not follow what I was taught sometimes...but I've learned to think outside the box and use many varied forms of discipline that work MUCH more effectively than going to spanking EVER would :)
